History

Sludge Buoy Systems AB was founded in 2004 in Gothenburg by marine engineer Fredrik Pettersson. Fredrik had by that time several years of sailing experience on many different ship types and he saw the common problems the ships had in their sludge oil and bilge water handling practices. The Sludge Buoy was therefore invented by Fredrik. The Sludge Buoy name, equipment and method were patented.

Since 2004 a lot of experience has been gathered and today we have over 250 installations all over the world. A lot of ship owners have witnessed huge savings in the sludge oil budget and engineers' using the system has found the system effective and smart. Sludge Buoy System is the best way for the engineers to fast retract the floating sludge oil inside a tank. Traditional practises by starting from the bottom and first pump out the water has a longer lead time and tend to lead to bad tank management. By extracting the sludge oil from the top and get rid of it as soon as it appears is much better and is resulting in cleaner tanks and better tank management. As a bi product the water left in the tank is less water whipped and is easier to process in existing bilge water separator.

Today Sludge Buoy Systems has expanded to be a provider of knowledge. All the experience over the years from sailing and working with manufacturing, inspections and environmental engineering has contributed to an enormous bank of knowledge. We have experience from external audits and quality assurance systems.

We intend to use this knowledge and share it with shipping companies all over the world in need of technical expertise. We also have a good network of trusted technical companies that support us if the scope of work expands. Since all of our engineers have Chief Engineering licenses we could also take part as start up engine officers. We have a new way of thinking and we always focus on the project.
